I have yet to publish a product review as a blog update, but my experience and actual obsession with my 8 year old's Christmas present is driving me to sing the praises of this game made for the Nintendo Wii. This version of Animal Crossing City Folks is an updated version to the original version launched for the Nintendo Game cube circa 2002. Some 7 years ago this game was launched after a Japanese N64 launch in the prior year.
You become part of a community inhabited by animals and you are the only human. You buy a home, create a bank account, buy furniture, experience the seasons, follow a 24/7 clock. The sun rises and sets. Stores follow business hours, bugs come out at night, snow is on the ground in the winter. It became a humorous experience for our family over the extended break. I found my Ugg wearing 8 year old to be more concerned with buying coffee the cost 200 bells and taking the bus to the city....all the while watching her bell (savings) dwindle.
I quickly swooped in and had her character buy a fishing rod, look for fish, dig up treasures and buy a net to catch bugs. All of these items available to sell to the local proprietor Tom Nook. We aggressively fish for fish for all types pulling in small to large species ranging in value. After much hard work and acquiring turnips to sell in the stalk market.....a new house was purchased after paying off the mortgage. I found myself feeling "virtually" exhilarated at the prospect of financial freedom.....even if it was within a game system.
